Conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim said of violinist Maxim Vengerov:
There's an element of curiosity in what he does, and an element of courage. It takes a lot of courage, not to try and repeat what you did yesterday, knowing that it was successful.
You need a violinist who doesn't think "How can I use this music to sound expressive and beautiful?" But you need, more, a violinist who says "What can I do with this violin that will bring this music to life?"
